A sales representative, Shafiu Umar, on Friday appeared in a Grade I Area Court, Nyanya, Abuja, for allegedly stealing N892, 100 belonging to his boss.
Shafiu, who lives in Kado village, Abuja is charged with alleged joint act and theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr E.O. Oche, said the case was reported at the Lifecamp Police Station on July 26 by the complainant, Amedu Destiny.
Oche told the court that the complainant employed the defendant as a sales representative for his Point-Of-Sale (POS) shop and entrusted the sum of N880, 00o.
He said the defendant failed to account for the money.
Oche told the court that the defendant said he transferred the money to one Umar through his Zenith and Access Bank accounts in which he promised to pay back in no time.
The prosecution said during police investigation the defendant admitted to the crime.
He said that the offence contravened the provisions of section 79 and 289 of the Penal Code.
Shafiu, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Abdullahi Ogedengbe, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000.
Ogedengbe ordered the defendant to produce one surety, who must be a GL09 officer in the Civil Service.
He then adjourned the case until Sept. 17, for hearing.
