The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, says no fewer than 12 persons have been reportedly burnt to death in an accident that occurred along the Benin-Auchi road this weekend.
Edo Sector Commander of the Commission, Cyril Mathew, told journalists that the accident happened on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at about 5am at Igueoviobo community close to the army checkpoint on the busy Highway.
He said it involved a Toyota Hiace bus which took off from Zuba in the Federal Capital Territory heading towards Benin, but collided with a truck heading towards Auchi, killing all those aboard.
“It happened on Saturday morning, there must have been fatigue from the driver coming from Abuja and the driver may have slept off and in the process had a collision with the truck.
“They were burnt, and we were able to contact the deceased relations because we were able to get the vehicle manifest,” he said.
Mathew said the occupants of the truck, the driver, and his motor boy escaped unhurt.
He, however, advised drivers to stop their vehicles whenever they experience fatigue on the journey arguing that it could save lives.
