Ex-Niger Delta militant, Asari Dokubo, has asked the Rivers State governor, Sim Fubara, to withdraw his statement in which he claimed that Rivers is a Christian state.
The Governor was quoted in a tweet on May 31, few days after he was sworn in, allegedly stating that, the state “would stay strong in its Christian values”.
The governor’s tweet reads: “Rivers State is a Christian State, and God is our foundation. We shall govern with the fear of God and stay strong to our Christian values of trust, faith, love, care, and sacrifice”.
While responding to the governor in a Facebook Live Video, Asari Dokubo said, Fubara started his term on a wrong footing adding that his comment in the tweet was against the principles of inclusivity and religious freedom.
He noted that, Rivers State belongs to all faiths, and the governor can’t unilaterally declare it a Christian state.
“I am using this medium to advise the governor, Sim Fubara, to better retract the statement.
“I want him to know that Rivers State is not and will never be a Christian state. With such a statement, I can say that the governor is starting on the wrong footing,” Dokubo said.
