The House of Representatives has mandated its Committee on Power to investigate the unending power grid collapse which is causing power outages in the north and other parts of the country.
This followed the adoption of a Motion on matters of urgent public importance moved by Hon. Mansur Manu Soro at Plenary on Wednesday.
Presenting the Motion, he noted that power supply is critical to the economic advancement of any nation adding that, its importance can’t be over emphasized.
According to him, power supply remains indispensable in facilitating the production of goods and services in every economy.
Hon. Soro lamented that Nigeria has continued to experience unending power grid collapses with eight incidences so far in 2024.
The lawmaker said, “The entire states in the North East, North West and some parts of the North Central zones has been thrown into darkness in what the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) described as “faulty transmission lines.
“The unending power grid collapse is coming at a time of worsening national hardship caused by the extreme naira devaluation by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
“These sad developments in the power sector are happening despite an increase in power tariff and accompanying assurances given by the Minister of Power for stable power supply after the tariffs hike,” he said.
The House adopted the motion and mandate its Committee on Legislative Compliance to ensure compliance.
