Reps Hold Interactive Session on Tax Reform Bills, Public Hearing on Marine Corps Bill

The House of Representatives is set to host an internal Interactive Session on Monday on the four Executive Tax Reform Bills currently before the National Assembly.
The House Committee on Navy headed by Honourable Yusuf Adamu Gagdi will also hold a public hearing on Marine Corps establishment Bills titled, “A Bill for an Act to Establish the Nigerian Marine Corps to Promote Maritime Security and for Related Matters, 2023 (HB. 225)”.
In a statement, the House Spokesperson, Akin Rotimi Jr said the interactive session on the Tax Reform Bills initiated by the House Leadership, underscores its commitment to ensuring robust engagement and informed legislative action on critical policy reforms.
According to him, the interactive session, scheduled for Monday, November 18, 2024 which will be held at the temporary chamber of the House at 10am is aimed to provide members with a platform to engage directly with the principal promoters of the tax reform bills from the Executive arm of government.
Honorable Rotimi Jr stated, “Thus, this engagement will enable Honourable Members seek clarifications, pose critical questions, and gain deeper insights into the proposed reforms. Such understanding is vital to strengthening the legislative process and enhancing Members’ contributions to the deliberations on these bills.
“Recognising the national significance of the proposed reforms and their implications for fiscal policy and governance.
“The 10th House of Representatives remains committed to its mandate of advancing the nation’s development through transparent, inclusive, and informed legislative processes.
“The public is invited to note that while this is an internal interactive session, it does not foreclose the customary public hearing, a crucial step in the lawmaking process.
“At such hearings, members of the public are provided with an opportunity to gain deeper insights into legislative proposals and make meaningful inputs aimed at shaping effective reforms”
In a separate statement on the Public hearing on the Marine Corps Bill, the House Spokesperson said it aligns with the Agenda 6 of the Legislative Agenda of the House on Open Parliament to foster transparent, inclusive governance.
He said, “The Public Hearing provides a platform for stakeholders and the general public to consider the bill’s merits and demerits and offer guidance to the House on its legislative action going forward.
“The 10th House of Representatives, under the leadership of Speaker Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, remains committed to fostering inclusive legislative processes and engaging with citizens to ensure impactful and robust policymaking.
“We encourage all invited stakeholders and interested members of the public to attend and contribute to this significant national discourse”.
