Rep. Bem Mzondu (PDP-Benue) has sought for an end to attacks and killings by suspected herdsmen in Benue.
Mzondu said this when he presented a motion of urgent public importance on killings by suspected herdsmen in Benue during plenary on Thursday.
Presenting the motion, the lawmaker said that the attacks were mostly in communities located in Guma, Markudi and Gwer West Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
“At the early hours of March 7 suspected herdsmen and bandits unleashed terror on a community in Benue, five persons were gruesomely murdered, while several others sustained different level of injuries.
“There was a similar attack in the early hours of March 10 in Guma LGA where six persons were killed and over 20 others injured.
“Cognizant by the notice of proscription order as contained in the federal official order dated Sept. 29, 2021 volume 108 of the activities of Yan Bindiga and Yan Ta’adda and other similar armed groups have been declared to be terrorists.
The House commensurated with the families of the victims and observed a minute silence for the repose of their souls.
The lawmakers also urged National Emergency Management Agency and Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs provide relief materials to the victims to cushion their hardship.
