Reign of terror in Akwa Ibom as hoodlums behead police personnel; We have launch manhunt – PPRO

The killing of a police personnel, Inspector Osang in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital yesterday (Wednesday), has generated palpable fears among residents of the state.
Although, facts surrounding his death is misty, a source who spoke to our reporter under anonymity said, the incident occured at about 8:30 pm.
He said, the assailants which numbered over 10 people stormed the residence of their victim located on a lane linking Enen Afaha and Afaha Ube, a suburb within Uyo metropolis the eventful evening to reign havoc; shooting while residents and passersby scampered for safety.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Odiko Mac-Don confirmed the incident saying, the Command has received the news of the murder of the police personnel describing it as very unfortunate.
According to him, “we have received that information and it is an unfortunate situation.
“Already, an investigation is ongoing and we are committed to ridding the streets of criminal elements.
“Again, we are not dettered and we are committed to ensuring that, criminal minded persons will account for their actions” said, PPRO.
When our reporter visited the area Thursday morning, people were seen in clusters discussing the unfortunate incident.
The tragedy, Daylight Reporters can recall is the fourth of such incidences in January after a young lady, was also murdered penultimate Sunday night and the dismembered body tucked in a Ghana-Must-Go bag was dumped by the roadside at Nwaniba area.
Similarly, a woman was reportedly killed at the banking area of Sir Udo Udoma and a male at Ikot Oku Ikono junction in the Uyo metropolitan in the past two weeks.
Meanwhile, Akwa Ibom Governor, Umo Eno has read riot act to criminals in the State warning that, no criminal should test the resolve of his administration on security matters.
Eno, made this known at a gala-night for service commanders who have been transferred from the state, and the newly promoted Military Generals from Akwa Ibom state.
Governor Eno stated, “if criminals believe that Akwa Ibom State is a place for them to hibernate, I am warning them to stay away. We have credible intelligence that there are those ones living among us…we will come after you and we will use every layer of our intelligence available to track you” said, Governor Eno.
