The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Queen’s College, Lagos, has solicited government and private sector support to have two campuses for students due to overstretched facilities in the school.
Mr Oluwayomi Ojo, Chairman of the Association, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, said that this would create an enabling environment to separate the junior school from the senior.
According to him, there are limited facilities and human resources, so what is done in the college is to supplement the current human resources with competent PTA teachers.
“We are still appealing to the government for support because I heard that the principal is looking for another site for dual campus, that will have junior school somewhere and senior school elsewhere.
“As we can see, the facilities are overstretched, going by the number of students; separating the two categories will really reduce bullying and definitely give the students more space to learn.
“We pay more than N6 million every month to the PTA teachers as well as PTA members of staff in the College, where we have security, divers and cleaners,” Ojo added.
The PTA Chairman commended the intervention of MTN Foundation in upgrading the Chemistry, Physics and Biology Laboratories, and urged others in the private sector to emulate such.
Ojo said by so doing, they would be touching lives and investing in the future of the young ones.
“Government schools need the intervention of private sector to survive; that is exactly what MTN Foundation has done.
”With this development, the students now have what is obtainable in private schools in a public school,” he said.
