Property worth N1.144 billion was lost to fire outbreaks in Osun between January and December 2021, according to data by the State Fire Service.
The data which was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, said the loss arose from 95 fire incidents in the period under review.
The data indicated that majority of the fire outbreaks were recorded between January and April.
It said that the highest incidents were recorded in February with 21 fire outbreaks in which property worth N257 million was destroyed.
It, however, said that no life was lost.
Speaking on the information, Mr Ibrahim Adekunle, the fire service spokesperson, told NAN that more fire disasters were recorded during the harmattan/dry season due to bush burning.
Adekunle urged the residents to take caution to avoid fire outbreaks at all times.
“When burning refuse, people should ensure it burns out to prevent fire from spreading or escalating.
“Electrical appliances should be switched off and removed from the socket when leaving the house. Parents should also avoid allowing children into the kitchen and keep matches away from them.
“Flammable liquids such as petrol and diesel should not be stored at home,’’ Adekunle said.
