Former House leader and the Chairman, House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa has stated that, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s track record of performance as Governor of Lagos State was a good testament of his desire to make Nigeria better as a President.
He stated this while addressing members of special security volunteers, Vigilante, and Police Constabulary Corps paid him a courtesy call at his residence in Kano on Monday.
He said that, the president as well as members of the legislature are aware of the hardships and economic challenges being faced by Nigerians.
He said, “Of course I am aware of the hardships people are going through. The economic challenges, Mr President too is not oblivious of such problems. He has said it times without number. But, that does not stop us as Representatives of the people to speak through you especially those of you that are opinion leaders.
“I hear some people say Nigeria is not Lagos. Agreed, Nigeria is not Lagos, but which governor in the history of Nigerian democracy did as good or as much Tinubu did when he was the governor of Lagos State. I agree Nigeria is not Lagos, but tell me which governor in Nigeria? Who in Nigeria? The governor that just came and created Gidan Murtala Flyover which is wrongly designed? Or the governor that recruited our kids, our wards out of Nigeria to go and study in Mushroom universities.
“Schools that are not in anyway up to standard of our own schools in Nigeria. He keeps going making stories that, I have taken your kids to America, I have taken your kids to Ghana and Canada. If you get to Canada and America or wherever he said he might have taken them, you find them in Mushroom schools. Schools that have no hostels, schools that don’t take care of the welfare and well-being of the people. But you go round telling people that I have taken people abroad to study.
“Ask him, when Governor Abubakar Rimi of blessed memory took him outside of this country to study, was that the kind of school he was taken to? Or you send our children leave them without welfare, leave them without the normal statutory scholarship and some of them will end up begging.
These are not the kinds of interventions that we expect from a governor. The kind of intervention we expect from a popular governor, a governor that cares for his people are realistic interventions.
“Assistance and supports that cut across areas that have to do with the lives and livelihoods of the people. If you are taking our kids, there may be some specialities, some special courses in the academics or in our own Nigerian curriculum”.
Hon. Doguwa advised opinion leaders to make people understand that, respect and obedience to people in the position of authority is duty-bound on every Muslim and Christian.
He said, “And it’s only when you pray, it’s only when you pray for your leaders, then your leaders will be right.If you always curse your leaders, if you abuse them, at the end of the day, your leaders will fall within the confines of your abuses and curse.
“So, I think, Mr President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu apart from the very good intention he has, he has also manifested obviously anyone can see, he has manifested commitment, he has also manifested dedication to serve our people”.
