President Bola Tinubu has declined to assent to a bill seeking for the establishment of Federal University of Education, Numan, Adamawa State over spellings and other errors discovered in the Bill.
The House had months ago passed the Bill seeking the establishment of the University.
The President in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajuddeen read by the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu who presided over the Plenary on Tuesday explained his reasons for declining Assent to the Bill.
One of the reasons according to the President was that, Section 22 of the bill accords the authority to consent the disposal of land to the governor and not the President as ought to be the case in respect of land belonging to a Federal Government entity in the case of Universities.
President Tinubu also said that he declined an assent to the Bill because of proposition of Award in Degree was omitted in Section 25 (b).
It reads, “Section 22 of the Bill accords the authority to consent to the disposal of land to the Governor and not the President as ought to be the case in respect of land belonging to a Federal Government entity (in the case of Universities),
“The word ‘’statutes” is spelled as ‘statues’ in items 13 and 15 under arrangement of s ections;
“The preposition ‘‘of” is omitted between the word ‘award’ and “degree” in section 25(4)(b), and the phrase ‘‘one-third” is spelled as ‘‘on-third” in article 4(3) of the third schedule to the Bill,” the letter noted.
