The Police Command in Niger has arrested two suspects over alleged attempt to steal a parked vehicle without registration number at Tunga ,Chanchaga Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in a statement in Minna on Wednesday.
Abiodun said before committing the act, the suspects drove a Toyota Sienna vehicle with registration number: KUJ 530 BF from Suleja to Minna with passengers.
He said on Oct. 13, at about 13: 00 hours, Police Operatives attached to Chanchaga Division arrested one Akrakra Nwakonebi and Stanley Anozie of Imo for attempting to steal from the parked vehicle at Tunga area.
He said that Nwakonebi claimed to be a transporter who conveyed six passengers, including his friend, Anozie, from Suleja to Minna in a Toyota Sienna vehicle with registration number KUJ 530 BF.
On getting to Tunga area in Minna, after dropping the passengers, Anozie instructed Nwakonebi to park the vehicle while he dropped and attempted to gain access into a parked vehicle without registration number in Tunga area, the PPRO said.
He said an alarm was raised by passers-by which made him to run back into their vehicle and Nwakonebi drove off, but were pursued and arrested by the Police at Pogo area.
During interrogation, he said, the suspects confessed to the crime.
The police spokesman said the case was already under investigation after which the suspects would be charged to court.
He advised residents of the state to always keep their cash and other valuables out of public glare, and as well, ensure that their vehicles were properly locked to deter thieves from accessing them.
