Policemen of the Anti fake drugs unity at the Delta State Police Command Asaba have intercepted a vehicle carrying contraband with adulterated pharmaceutical drugs worth N100million being conveyed to an unknown destination.
Police Commissioner in the state, Hafiz Muhammed Inuwah who confirmed this to Journalists at a media confrence held on Saturday at the Command’s premises, that the vehicle was intercepted in Ughelli South by the Eagle- Squard, identified the driver and the conduct as Joseph Ohiwa 38, and Edafe Ideiek 23 respectively, adding that they were arrested together with a Mercedes Benz truck with Reg No.KWC 44 SA conveying the contraband towards targeted destination.
Inuwah disclosed that the vehicle was packed full of drugs ranging from codeine, tramadol , unregistered products and drugs with fake batch numbers which were estimated to be N100million, adding” the drugs contained tramadol and codeine already prohibited and they are without NAFDAC numbers. Those with NAFDAC numbers are fake numbers”
While lamenting the situation where fake drugs have remained on the increase, inspite of the laws , the Police Commissioner said that most of drugs were fake with invoice and receipts, adding that the documents had no identification showing take off point or destination” we go to whatever length to ensure the innocent souls are saved by people who are just out to make money by all means”
He said that the driver was directed by his sporsors to take the goods to Ughelli and Warri axis for distribution from Onitsha, adding that upon interrogation, the driver confessed to have been indulged in the evil activities long ago before nemesis caught up with him.
