The Ogun state police command says it arrested one Kehinde Salihu and other three suspects for allegedly killing one Abiodun Odebunmi, a point of sale (POS) terminal operator, after luring him with a transaction of N4 million.
According to the police, the POS operator, who operates at Aparadija axis of the state, was reported missing on April 18, when he was not seen after he had gone to see a customer with the sum of N4 million for POS transaction, the previous day.
An attendant to the POS operator told the police that the same customer had carried out a business transaction worth N1.5 million with her boss, some days before the request of N4 million.
Abimbola Opeyemi, the Ogun police spokesperson, in a statement on Thursday, said the body of the POS operator was discovered in an uncompleted building at Arobieye axis of the state without the trace of the assailants.
The police spokesperson said a manhunt was launched for the suspects and it was discovered that the main suspect fled to Ekiti state, and from Ekiti state, he fled to Ofa, Kwara state, when he discovered the police were after him.
The suspect was said to have been arrested at the boundary between Ogun and Lagos, where he had travelled to Benin Republic to witness the court session of Sunday Adeyemo, youth leader, better known as Sunday Igboho.
According to the police, Salihu confessed to the murder of the POS operator after collecting the N4 million from him.
The suspect’s confessional statement led to the arrest of another three suspects who allegedly specialise in the snatching cars from e-hailing drivers and robbing POS operators.
“According to her, they have earlier done a transaction of 1.5 million naira with the person who invited his boss the previous day, and that it was the same person, who called his boss to meet him at ojuore to do another pos transaction of 4million naira,” the statement reads.
“On interrogation, Kehinde Salihu Jeili, who claimed to be a native of Apomu in Osun state confessed killing the victim. He confessed further that he deliberately lured the victim to ota where he and his gang members were waiting for him with the money he was asked to bring, having transact a 1.5 million naira business with him the previous day.
“And that they matcheted him to death after collecting the money from him. He stated further that they burnt the victim’s body in order to cover their tracks.
“He confessed further that their targeted victims are always Uber and POS Operators. According to him, one of them will pretend as passenger to the Uber driver, and will lure such driver to where his members were waiting, and as soon as he got to the place, the driver will be hacked to death and the car will be taken away to their receiver.
“Also, the suspect stated further that he and his gang attacked another victim of their criminal act one Idowu Ademiluyi at Itori area and snatched his Toyota Corolla car, having matcheted him to the point of death.
“The confessional statements of the duo led to the arrest of the other two suspects, Johnson Fakeye and Akinola Jamiu at Atan ota and Owode Yewa respectively.
”One Toyota Camry, one Toyota Corolla and one Toyota Rave 4, whose owners had been gruesomely murdered were recovered from the gang.”
