The police, on Monday, arraigned a 25-year-old man, Olanisebe Damilola, before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun over alleged housebreaking and stealing of valuables, worth N260,000.
Damilola, whose address was not provided, is being tried for felony, burglary and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Abdullahi Emmanuel, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on June 14, at about 9:15 pm. at Olugboodo area of Ile-Ife.
Emmanuel said that the defendant broke into the home of one Owotomo Bukola and stole two Tecno cell phones, valued at N240,000.
He said that the defendant also broke into the home of one Ebenezer Adeyera and stole a wristwatch, hand ring and necklace, whose total value was N20,000.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 390(9), 411 and 412 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
The Defence Counsel, Mrs Eyiolawi Comfort, urged the court to grant her client bail in the most liberal terms, with a promised that the defendant would not jump bail, but would provide responsible sureties.
The Magistrate, Mr A. A. Adebayo, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N300,000, with one surety in like sum.
Adebayo said that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means and reside within the court jurisdiction, while his address must be verified by the prosecutor.
He also said that the surety must produce three years tax clearance certificates and three recent passport photographs.
The magistrate, thereafter, adjourned the case till Sept. 21, for hearing.
