The police, on Monday, arraigned a 37-year-old man, Jabi Oluwaseun, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ekiti, over alleged N430,000 fraud.
The defendant, whose address was not provided in the charge sheet, is standing trial on a two-count charge of fraud and conversion of fund to personal use.
Insp Caleb Leramo, the Prosecutor, informed the court that the defendant committed the offences on June 7 at about 5:30 p.m., at Agric Olope Area, off Ikere-Ekiti Road in Ekiti.
Leramo said that the defendant obtained the sum of N430, 000 from the complainant, Mr Aladejare Joshua, on the pretext of selling to him one used AUDI A4 wagon vehicle with Reg. NO. ADK 358 AA.
According to the prosecutor, the defendant made the claim knowing same to be false as the vehicle did not belong to him.
He said the defendant fraudulently obtained the N430, 000 and converted the money to his own use.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 419 and 390(8b) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, who had no legal representative in court, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
Chief Magistrate Saka Afunso granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until July 18 for mention.
