The police on Friday arraigned a 27-year-old man, Samuel Manga, in Lagos for alleged theft of a cell phone and money.
The defendant, who has no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Insp Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 25 about 7.15 p.m. at BRT Bus stop, Ketu, Lagos.
He alleged that the defendant, and one other still at large, stole an Infinix Hot 10 handset worth N60,000.
“The complainant told the police that the defendant and one other threatened to stab him with a broken bottle, and forcefully collected his phone and cash of N3,000.
“They took the phone and money and ran to Jakande Park, but with the help of some boys, the defendant was caught while his accomplice escaped,” Bassey said.
According to the prosecutor, the phone belongs to one Mr Olusegun Shofowoke.
Adeniyi said the offence contravened Section 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.A Daodu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000, with two surgeries in like sum.
She adjourned the case until March 20 for hearing.
