Mr Arandong Yohana-Makwin on Wednesday emerged as new President of Plateau chapter of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE).
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Yohana-Makwin polled 90 votes to beat four other contestants in keenly contested elections of the union held at Pankshin Local Government.
Mr Shamdung Japla-Ayuba, a National Officer of the union, who conducted the elections, described the exercise as ”free, credible and fair.”
Declaring the results, Japla-Ayuba commended the electorate for the peaceful manner in which they conducted themselves during the polls.
Yohana-Makwin, the newly elected president, thanked the council workers for the confidence they reposed in him.

According to him, he is conversant with the issues and challenges confronting council workers in the state, saying he would do all he could to address them.
“Unionism is about welfare, and I will study the issues on ground and see how we can liaise with the Government to ensure that workers get their fair share in terms of wages, promotions among others, ” he said.
The president called on those who contested along with him to join him in leading the council workers in the state because “to me, there no winner no vanquished in this election, more so that we are one family.”
