PDP Slams Gov Yahaya’s Alarming Neglect’ of Education as University Begins Strike
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Gombe State has expressed solidarity with the Academic Staff Union of Gombe State University, who embarked on a total and indefinite strike to protest the state government’s neglect of education.
The PDP in a press release by its state Public Relations Officer, Abdulkadir Ahmad Dukku, condemned the Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya-led administration for its alleged failure to prioritise education, citing the decline in the quality of education, inadequate welfare of teachers, and disregard for the rule of law.
The party accused the government of undermining key educational institutions through poor funding and lack of political will, and called for accountability in public spending.
He also criticised the government’s handling of palliatives donated by the Federal Government and other organizations, alleging that they were left to languish in a private store instead of being used to alleviate the suffering of the people.
The party urged citizens to hold the government accountable for its actions and demand a proactive commitment to prioritizing education and public welfare over personal interests.
“The PDP stands resolutely in solidarity with the Academic Staff of Gombe State University, who have initiated an indefinite strike to protest the state government’s neglect of education.
“We call upon the citizens of Gombe to unite in this critical cause, advocating for a government that is responsive, responsible, and genuinely committed to the betterment of our society.”, he said.
