PDP Condemns Gombe Government’s Neglect of Local Government Workers’ Salary

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Gombe State chapter has condemned the actions of Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya-led administration regarding delays in salary payments for local government workers.
This failure of governance is not merely an administrative oversight; it represents a profound betrayal of the hardworking local government employees of Gombe State.
In a statement by PDP Public Relations Officer (PRO) in the state, Abdulkadir Ahmad Dukku, these workers rely on their salaries to support their families and contribute to their communities.
According to the statement, the PDP has uncovered a troubling reality that local government workers have not received their October salaries, while their counterparts at the state level have received only a fraction of their entitlements under the new minimum wage.
It said this glaring disparity underscores the government’s neglect and lack of commitment to the very employees who form the backbone of local governance.
The party said the recently announced minimum wage agreement, signed on 14 October 2024, was touted as a significant step toward improving the livelihoods of workers.
However, the PDP noted, it has proven to be nothing more than a façade an empty promise designed to placate the public while the government continues to ignore its fundamental obligations.
“We have consistently warned that the agreement signed between the Gombe State government and the Nigeria Labour Congress, Gombe State chapter, is dubious at best,” the party said.
The statement noted that the administration has repeatedly demonstrated that its promises are hollow and its priorities misaligned.
It pointed out that while workers in other states receive their dues promptly, Gombe State employees are left in a state of uncertainty, struggling to make ends meet.
The PDP observed that the effects of these salary delays are severe as families are suffering, children going hungry, and the morale of dedicated public servants is plummeting.
It stressed that government’s inaction is not merely a logistical failure, but a moral crisis that reflects a blatant disregard for the welfare of the people it is meant to serve.
“As a responsible political party that values civil servants and empathizes with their living conditions in this challenging era, we demand immediate and decisive action from the Gombe State government to rectify this untenable situation. It is time for the administration to set aside excuses and take responsibility for its failures,” it said.
The PDP called for the immediate payment of all outstanding salaries as government must prioritize the payment of October salaries to all local government workers without further delay and a transparent review of the Minimum Wage agreement stressing that the purported new minimum wage should be revisited and made transparent to ensure it genuinely meets the needs of our workers.
The party also urged the labor unions in Gombe State that signed the minimum wage agreement to come forward and explain to local government workers what is truly happening regarding the new minimum wage debacle.
It said transparency is essential to restore trust and clarity among the workers.
The statement urged citizens of Gombe State to stand united against these injustices as together, it can demand a government that truly represents the interests of its people, rather than one that perpetuates cycles of broken promises and neglect saying it’s time to restore integrity and accountability to governance.
