A commercial motorcycle ‘okada’ rider, John Bawa, was on Thursday docked in an Upper Area court, Karu, Abuja, for allegedly stealing a colleague’s Bajaj motorcycle worth N370,000.
The police charged Bawa, 20, of Games village, new Kuchingoro, Abuja with criminal breach of trust.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Ade Adeyanju, told the court that the matter was reported at the Durumi Police station by one Abel Daniel of IDP camp, by Games village, Abuja.
Adeyanju told the court that on Oct. 2, the complainant entrusted his Bajaj motorcycle to the defendant to wash for him while on his way to church.
He said that when the complainant returned, he discovered that the defendant dishonestly sold the motorcycle and converted the money to his own use.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 312 of the Penal Code.
He said that during police investigation, the defendant could not give satisfactory account of his actions.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Judge, Mr Hassan Mohammed, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one surety who must live within the court’s jurisdiction.
Mohammed ordered that the address of the surety, means of identity and statement of account must be verified by an officer of the court.
He adjourned the case until Dec. 13, for mention.
