The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen. Muhammad
Fadah, has urged youth corps members to embrace the scheme’s Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED)
programme to become self-reliant.
Fadah made the call at the closing ceremony of the 2022 Batch ‘B’ stream ‘II’ orientation course on Tuesday in Kaduna.
Represented by the NYSC Coordinator in Kaduna State, Mr Odoba Abel, he said the SAED acquired by the youth corps members
would avail them opportunities for post-camp training.
He said that the skills would also go a long way in empowering them to become self-reliant amid jobs scarcity.
Fadah announced that the scheme was liaising with financial institutions and other stakeholders to provide start-up
loans to enable youth corps members to actualise their business dreams.
He assured them of the scheme’s commitment to explore avenues that would optimise the impact of the SAED programme.
The director-general urged the NYSC members to strive toward meeting the expectations of Nigerians by contributing toward its progress and development.
He added that “you must be wary of acts that portray negative image of the scheme, especially vices such as drug abuse and trafficking, cybercrime
and Advanced-Fee-Fraud.”
He appealed to employers to accept youth corps members posted to them and make the necessary provisions for their welfare.
Earlier, the acting Governor of Kaduna State, Hajiya Hadiza Balarabe, said for the corps members to improve their lives, they must endeavour to utilise
the opportunity which the NYSC provided them through the SAED training.
She reminded them of the major objective of the NYSC, noting that it was to foster unity and integration among the diversed ethnic nationalities of Nigeria.
Balarabe urged them to pursue the goal in practical terms by taking their host communities as their home and contribute to development.
She reiterated the Kaduna State Government’s will to give the scheme maximum support toward the attainment of its objectives.
