Nursing Mother Raises The Alarm Over Missing Husband
By Osehobo Ofure, Benin City
A nursing mother in Benin City, Mrs Inegbedion, has cried out over the disappearance of her husband, who vanished without a trace after traveling to work by helicopter with his colleagues seven months ago.
She said, “My husband, Destiny Yinusa Inegbedion, from Edo State works at the Agbara offshore platform operated by Sigmund Oil Fields. His take-off point is Port Harcourt, and it takes 45 minutes by helicopter to reach the platform.”
According to Mrs Inegbedion, “he works in the catering section and travelled to work with his colleagues on July 29, 2024. That same day, he confirmed his safe arrival to me over the phone.”
However, on August 5, 2024, she received a distress call from her husband. He told her that his colleagues were ganging up against him. The next day, August 6, he was declared missing.
Mrs Inegbedion said the situation became even more suspicious when, “his phone and wallet were found in his room, yet one of his colleagues later reached out, demanding his phone password from me”.
“Since then”, she said, “We have received no meaningful information from his direct employer, Mr Felix Edosomwan (owner of Prestige Hotel), or from Chris Uba, the operator of Sigmund Oil Fields.”
She also said she has tried in vain to get the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to conduct a proper investigation.
“Nobody is saying anything!” she said.
When asked if she had received any of her husband’s belongings from the platform since the incident, she replied, “The operator refuses to release them. NUPRC keeps telling me they are on the matter, but there has been no action, no progress.
“I am a nursing mother of a 9-month-old baby and a toddler. My husband went to work like every responsible man should—to provide for his family. Now, he is missing, and I am left alone, struggling for answers.”
Mrs Inegbedion said, “Please, I am pleading for help! I need justice! Let the world hear this! Anyone with useful information should contact the nearest police station”.
