In a significant breakthrough, the Nigerian military has neutralised Halilu Sububu, a notorious ringleader of bandits, in a successful operation on Thursday.
Sububu, who was a key figure in the criminal underworld, was responsible for guiding and mentoring other bandit leaders, including the notorious Bello Turji.
Sububu’s reign of terror was particularly felt in Zamfara State, where he led and organised numerous attacks on innocent civilians, leaving a trail of death and destruction in his wake.
His influence extended beyond the state, as he was known to have links with other criminal elements across the region.
In a viral video clip that surfaced on social media last Tuesday, Sububu was seen inciting Fulani bandits, urging them to take up arms against the government and civilians who allegedly molest his kinsmen.
His inflammatory rhetoric and calls to violence made him a prime target for the military’s counter-banditry efforts.
The military’s operation, which resulted in Sububu’s death, is seen as a major victory in the fight against banditry and terrorism in Nigeria. His demise is expected to deal a significant blow to the criminal network he helped establish and lead.
