Nigerian Society of Engineers inaugurate Uyo Branch

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Uyo Branch has inaugurated a new Executive Committee with Engr. Emem Ezekiel as it’s 17th Chairman.
The inauguration was held at the Emerald Event Center in Uyo, the State capital at the weekend.
Other Executive Committee members are; Engr. Francis Uwah as Vice – Chairman, Engr. Odudu Obot, General Secretary, Engr. Anietimfon Akpan, Treasurer, Engr. Victor Dick, Technical Secretary, Engr. (SP) Akaninyene Akpan, Financial Secretary, Engr. Wisdom Ukpabio, Publicity Secretary, Engr. Imaobong Joseph Akpan, Welfare Officer/Assistant Publicity Secretary, Engr. Abasiama Akai, Assistant General Secretary, Engr. Aniefre Etuk, Assistant Technical Secretary, Engr. Hart Etewo, Ex – Officio 2 and Engr. Uwem Akpan, IPC/Ex – Officio 1.
Chairman, Engr. Emem Ezekiel in his inaugural address said, his vision for the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) is predicted on excellence, inclusion and impact nothing that; since engineering as a profession has the power to transform lives and revolutionalize the world, the Nigerian Society of Engineers would support members to reach their full potentials by striving for excellence in everything from technical programmes to leadership/good governance.
Others he said are; that the organization would foster a culture of inclusion, diversity and equity to ensure every member feels valued and empowered to contribute, while driving meaningful impact through project delivery, advocacy, outreach programmes and stakeholders engagement in demonstrating the value of engineering to the society.
While calling for unity of purpose among the members to build a Society to be reckoned with, Engr. Ezekiel promised to complete the NSE secretariat building project, embark on media advocacy, strengthen partnerships with industry operators, academia, government and other entities to drive innovation and policy change.
Keynote speaker, Engr. (Dr.) Halimat Adediran who spoke on the topic, “Engineering Investments and Development Prospects in the Aviation Industry” described engineering as an all encompassing discipline that provides a platform for development and innovation.
She maintained that, from evolution engineering has provided solutions to societal problems and would continue to do so by addressing the challenges of life, as aviation industry offers numerous engineering investment opportunities and development prospects including; aircraft design and manufacturing.
Others are; advancements in materials, aerodynamics, and digital design tools; airport infrastructure – expansion, modernization, and digitalization.
She commended the Uyo Branch of NSE for it’s remarkable feat achieved in the past few years of it’s existence as a professional body.
The outgoing chairman, Engr. Ukeme Okpop felicitated the new chairman and his Executive Committee expressing optimism that, the new administration would usher in era of innovation, growth and service to the engineering profession.
He noted with excitement that, having worked with the new chairman before, when he was branch chairman, he would deploy his unwavering commitment, integrity and steadfastness as his invaluable traits to the success and growth of Uyo Branch.
Earlier, the Chairman, central planning committee of the event and Vice – Chairman of NSE, Uyo Branch, Engr. Francis Uwah said, the inauguration marked a new dawn as members come together to celebrate shared commitment to advancing engineering excellence and addressing the challenges facing the profession.
He reminded members the core values of integrity, innovation and collaboration as guide post to upholding the highest standards in engineering practice, and contribute to the development of our society, that binds the Nigerian Society of Engineers together.
Engr. Uwah, however thanked the members and all those who supported the society in one way or the other, for their tireless efforts and commitment to make the event realizable.
The event also featured, the inauguration of APWEN Executive members, induction of new members, Dinner and goodwill messages from Akwa Ibom State government, People’s Democratic Party, corporate organizations and the Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi among others.
