Nigeria is Weak
By Ahmed Ghani Hassan
Nigerian situation continues deteriorating, by looking at the recent cancellation of the trip of the Vice President who is supposed to represent the President in a Commonwealth of Nations Summit.
This is the second time the Vice President’s trip has been cancelled, which is pathetic and a great shame despite allocating billions of Naira in purchasing Presidential jets Indeed it’s lamentable.
Amid suffering, the government make an emphasis to the fiscal economic policy by increasing the taxation which recently plans to raise value added tax (vat) to 15% which would continue to plunge millions of Nigerians into abject poverty and decaying the businesses.
Indeed it’s high time for the Government to shun the advises of the Brenton wood institutions and face the reality.
Also, it’s very sad and shameful for a country to record more than eight times National grid collapses in less than a year with the first recorded on February 4.
It’s indeed a great failure for a serious government to have been experiencing National grid collapse three times in a week without taking proper action and vividly investigating the matter and fetching out the saboteurs, because you can’t build a modern economy without sufficient, sustainable and stable power and energy, that’s why we remain under developed and continue as a third world country.
Let me reiterate the fact that electricity is one of the most essential instrument for development. Its pathetic the way and manner the government is handling the situation particularly in the Northern part of the country as the most serious affected area.
The north is the most backwards region in terms of human and capital development and is devastating for many years, therefore it’s a task for every northern state to prepare a blueprint that will help and develop the state and to collaborate with critical stakeholders to initiate a sound public policy that will help in bringing genuine development.
I have said it in many of my articles about our Association which we established since 2018, ‘The Native of Bauchi State Multipurpose Association for Development’ and involved all critical stakeholders of the state with aims to unite and achieve socio-economic development.
It hopes to provide opportunities and platforms where orientation campaign and sensitization training shall take place to help the people of Bauchi State in changing their mind sets from pursuing salary-oriented jobs to engage in productive and small scales businesses in order to be self-reliant and will indeed boost the IGR of the state.
Moreover, the Bauchi State Government has taken bold steps, which is commendable, by providing an enabling environment for the economic growth and development of the State.
We hope that other states in the North- Eastern Nigeria as the most backwards geo-political zone to embrace and emulate the goals and objectives of this great association to come together and achieve the socio-economic development and also to assist in promoting unity of their states by removing sectionalism owing to religion affiliation, political party and tribal discrimination.
