Nigeria Challenges Combination of Senseless Politics, Lack of Patriotism – Segun Showunmi
Otunba Segun Showunmi, a former Spokesman to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, said in the heart of Nigeria challenges is a combination of senseless politics and a lack of patriotism.
He said it is “quite unfortunate we sacrifice our collective development at the altar of crass egoism and myopic outlook we lean more towards senseless politics than national development hence a prepared for the job and fit-for-purpose Minister of Power is Nasir El-Rufai jettisoned.”
Showunmi was reacting on his Facebook page in the wake of persistent power outages in the northern part of Nigeria which has become a source of concern.
Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) including traditional rulers and stakeholders met in Kaduna calling on urgent action by the Federal Government.
He questioned that “one needs to know why Malam Nasir El-Rufai is not the Minister of Power given the serious level of background work I know for a fact he had done before our brand of myopic politics would not clear him but in their wisdom clears jokers and confirmed average Joes.”
The former Spokesman said northern leaders must rise to the urgency in the North as the issue of insecurity has gone on for way too long.
He berated northern leaders saying it is not the time to parade around in fashionable Babaringa while the roof is on fire.
According to him, it shows a lack of understanding or appreciation of the dire situation the problem left unchecked holds for the region and country.
He pointed out that when such monumental problems exist which threatens nationhood, leaders take jackets off and roll their sleeves for the task at hand.
“It is that time for these leaders to roll out of Babaringa and get to work tackling head on not only insecurity but the socio economic issues in the region,” he said.
Showunmi noted that he is reacting to the situation as opposition, but one who is passionate about getting the country to work.
