The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has called on Kaduna residents to shun violence during and after the General Elections.
The North West Zonal Coordinator of the agency, Imam Garki, made the call during a sensitisation rally on Thursday in Kaduna.
Garki said that the General Elections would serve as a determinant of the peace, unity and integrity of Nigeria.
According to him, the sensation is necessary to enlighten citizens to understand their roles in ensuring that the elections are violence-free, fair credible.
“Citizens have an important role to play by abstaining from all forms of voilence either before or after the elections for the integrity and safety of our future generations,”.Garki said.
He called on Nigerians to exercise their rights and responsibilities peacefully and refrain from any form of violence or intimidation during the election period.
“Citizens should accept the results of the elections in good faith for the the peace and unity of the nation,” he further said.
Muhammed Yahaya, Controller General, Safety Awareness and Environmental Support Initiative (SAESI), described the sensitisation as timely.
According to Yahaya, the elections have influence over all economic, social and political parameters.
He advised stakeholders and organisations in the state to emulate NEMA in sensitising residents on the need for peaceful general elctions.
He also urged the people to celebrate peacefully and not violently after the election results had been announced.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the rally involved a five-km walk and visit to the state central market and motor parks.
