NASS Management Move To Tackle Security Breaches By Loafers, Unwanted Visitors
The Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), Sani Magaji Tambawal has expressed concern over security breaches caused by loafers and unwanted visitors coming into the National Assembly Complex every day.
He stated this while speaking at two weeks security training course organised for the ‘Sergeant-At-Arms’, the lead security outfit in the National Assembly being held at the National Institute For Security Studies (NISS) Bwari Abuja.
The course was themed: “Securing Strategic National Assets for Peace, Safety and Sustainable Development”.
He said, to tackle the issue, the office of the CNA partnered with the National Institute For Security Studies (NISS) to organise the two-week Security Awareness Course.
According to the CNA, the Sergeant-at-Arms is responsible for ensuring internal peace and security in the National Assembly, as well as being the custodian of the Mace, which is a symbol of authority.
He noted that productivity is reducing due to loss of man-hours occasioned by unwanted visitors and loafers.
He emphasised that security is everybody’s business and a vital asset that institutions need in pursuit of peace, safety, and stable growth.
He therefore called for enhanced collaboration between Sergeant-At-Arm and other conventional security agencies to provide better security in the National Assembly Complex.
Tambawal added that, the present leadership of the National Assembly Management places high priority on this specialised course, hoping that its outcomes will be beneficial to the institution.
On his part, The Secretary, Research and Information Directorate of the National Assembly, Dr Ali Umoru commended the Clerk for conducting training focused on everybody’s security.
The Commandant NISS, A.S Adeleke also stressed that there is a strong need to properly train Sergeant-At-Arm staff due to new trends in criminality and influx of guests into the NASS complex.
