The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has vowed to pursue justice for victims of human organ harvesting in Plateau, allegedly involving one Noah Kekere and two other suspects.
Kekere and his accomplice were accused of harvesting a woman’s kidney during a surgery in a hospital in Jos.
They are currently in the Police custody.
NAPTIP Director of Legal and Prosecution, Hassan Tahir, on Tuesday told newsmen that the agency was on the issue and had carried out its own investigation on the matter.
He said, “The police is currently carrying out their own investigation and justice will be served on the matter at the end.
“We have conducted our own investigations. The law gives us the power to prosecute.
He said NAPTIP are collaborating with the police in a close monitoring of the case in pursuit of justice.
“We also understand that the suspect runs a hospital but he is not a member of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).”
Tahir noted that the issue of illegal organ harvesting was becoming rampant.
He said NAPTIP had organised series of awareness campaigns to curtail it.
“We went to markets and hospitals to create more awareness, sensitising and educating people on the ills of organs harvesting.
While calling on perpetrators to desist from the practice, he revealed that they were also investigating five other cases of organ harvesting.
