The Coalition of Concerned Military Veterans has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for honoring his commitment to improving military pensions and welfare.
In a press statement jointly signed by Abiodun Durowaiye-Herberts, National Coordinator of the Retired Members of Nigerian Armed Forces (REMENAF), and the spokesperson for the coalition, the group expressed gratitude for the government’s response following a peaceful protest held on December 4th and 5th, 2024.
“We, the leadership, on behalf of the entire Military Veterans Community, sincerely pay tribute to government officials who made this progress possible,” the statement read. “The sacrifices we made to preserve the peace and unity of this nation have been recognized, and we are deeply appreciative.”
The coalition reiterated its commitment to upholding its oath of allegiance, even in retirement, and expressed hope for the fulfillment of additional welfare promises before the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
The statement also acknowledged the efforts of Dr. Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu, a veteran leader and politician, whose behind-the-scenes engagement with key officials, including the Ministers of Defense and State for Defense, was described as instrumental.
“Our heartfelt gratitude extends to other association leaders whose roles will be highlighted in our next communique,” the group added.
An official letter of appreciation, signed by Air Commodore Femi Oguntuyi (Rtd.), Chairman of the Ministry of Defense Ministerial Standing Committee on Military Veterans Welfare, is being sent to President Tinubu and other government officials in recognition of their efforts.
