The Nigerian old system of farming is backing the wrong horse, because the 21st century world has shifted to modern system which is ever- changing approach to agricultural innovation to produce large quantity that increase efficiency to the country and use the excess for exports to get more foreign exchange that add more value to foreign reserve and strengthen the currency.
The federal government policy of restriction to some consumables isn’t working for the ordinary Nigerian. Prices are shooting up day by day and becoming unaffordable to the teaming populace.
The crude method can’t sustain the population of over 200 million Nigerians. We must rethink outside the box. A stabilizing factor need to be introduced, to at least bring succour and fight hunger in the land.
It’s a crying shame to impose restrictions on certain commodities, while your country cannot produce enough. There must be a better way to bridge the deficit. If not timely addressed the system will continue encouraging inflation where only the Downtrodden would pay the price.
A project as big as feeding the nation requires a lot of commitment and financial wherewithal. This is where the provision and making good use of sophisticated tractors, harvester, harrowing etc comes in. After that, I can bet my bottom dollar on a positive yield for the country.
Beyond a shadow of doubt, that’s how the front runners country like; Thailand, United States of America, china developed and are sufficiently stable.
However, it’s imperative for government of the federation and Nigerians governors to fully venture into mechanized farming, especially where there’s abundant land and make urea not only available but affordable to our farmers. If to go with the notion, welfare of the people is the cardinal principles of any government.
In fact, Nigeria needs a green thumb as never before. It’s very significant to eat what we grow, considering our population and diversed land. Though, it can only be possible with the improved varieties of seedlings and equipment.
