A 20-year-old motorcyclist, Saminu Saidu, appeared before a Grade I Area Court, Lugbe in FCT on Friday for allegedly stealing a motorcycle belonging to one Murtar Garba.
The Police charged Saidu of Tundu-Wada village, Lugbe, with a two-count charge of criminal joint act and theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Jibrin Seidu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 31 and was reported on same date by Garba.
He alleged that the nominal complainant’s brother, Usman Garba, parked his red boxed Bajaj motorcycle with Engine number DU WKE 74942 and chassis number XMD 2A18AYIKWE97089 at the tipper garage in Lugbe.
He said that he parked the motorcycle near the defendant’s own, to visit the brother – Garba, and that when he returned his motorcycle had been stolen.
He further said that the defendant said he saw another person with a yellow shirt taking the motorcycle away.
The defendant, who does not understand English, pleaded not guilty in Hausa.
The Presiding Judge, Abubakar Sadiq, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety in like sum.
Sadiq ordered that the surety must be residing within the FCT and adjourned the case until Sept. 4 for hearing.
