A Kaduna Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday jailed a 30-year-old man, Daniel Samson, to eight months imprisonment for shop- breaking and stealing property worth N170, 900.
Samson, a resident of Barnawa area of Kaduna metropolis, was convicted on a two-count charge of burglary and stealing.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, sentenced Samson who admitted committing the offence without an option of fine.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 28 at about 6:00 a.m. at Shopping Complex, Barnawa.
Leo said that the convict broke into a shop, belonging to one Elijah Francis and stole two dozens of plastic chairs and a generator, all valued at N170, 900.
According to him, the convict entered the shop through the ceiling and stole the items.
Leo further explained that the convict was arrested by members of the community vigilance group.
The prosecutor told the court that the convict was interrogated, and he admitted committing confessed the offence.
He said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 57 and 306 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017.
