The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Thursday charged a 25-year-old man, Sunday Amosu, before a Federal High Court in Lagos for allegedly peddling in 1.3kg of Cannabis sativa.
The defendant is charged with dealing in drug trafficking.
In the charge sheet signed by the prosecutor, Mr Lambert Nor, the NDLEA alleged that the defendant committed the offence on Nov. 10 at Aboki Estate in Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos State.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant dealt in 1.3 kg of Marijuana without lawful authority.
According to the prosecution, Cannabis is classified as a banned narcotic similar to Cocaine, Heroin and other restricted hard drugs listed in the NDLEA schedule as prohibited by law.
The offence of drug trafficking contravenes the provision of Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation 2004.
The Act provides a penalty of life imprisonment if convicted on the offence.
No date has been fixed for arraignment of the defendant.
