Pakistan lifted all Coronavirus-related restrictions on Wednesday, bringing life in the country back to pre-pandemic normalcy after a steady decline in number of cases.
“We have decided to lift all restrictions,’’ Asad Umar, the Minister in charge of the country’s Coronavirus response, told reporters.
He added that all eligible citizens were nonetheless advised to get vaccinated.
“People are now allowed to organise and attend wedding parties and social or religious gatherings and can dine indoors at restaurants, while markets must no longer restrict their working hours.
“The government took the decision following a sharp decline in new cases and the lowest number of patients in critical care since October,” Umar said.
At least four deaths and 493 new COVID-19 cases were reported during the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.
The country had so far recorded 1,520,120 cases and 30,317 COVID-related deaths in total.
Pakistan, with a population of 220 million, administered more than 219 million vaccine doses, with more than 101 million fully vaccinated since its immunisation drive started
in February 2021.
