Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Mr Aminu Abbas, on Sunday, disbursed N6 million to 600 women to boost their businesses.
Abbas (PDP – Uba Gaya constituency) also distributed 23 cars to the constituents and five ambulances to enhance referral services at the grassroots.
Abbas, who spoke during the distribution exercise at Mararba-Mubi in Hong Local Government Area of the state, said the gesture was in fulfilment of his campaign promises.
“We are celebrating another milestone in the history of our successful democratic system of governance that give us freedom, equity of purpose and development.
“As part of the ongoing democracy day celebration, I am happy and honoured to distribute 28 vehicles including five ambulances to the constituents.
“In addition, I am glad to disburse N6 million to 600 vulnerable women, each will benefit N10, 000,’’ he said.
He noted that his constituency had benefited a lot from the viable projects initiated by the state government, which included the provision of hand pumps and renovation of health facilities, among others.
He reiterated the commitment of the assembly to make sound legislations towards strengthening democratic culture and values in the state.
The speaker listed some of the laws to be introduce to include compulsory payment of WAEC and NECO examination fees for indigent students by the state government.
Abbas further commended his colleagues in the house for their support and cooperation irrespective of party affiliations.
Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri, represented by Adamu Pirembe, Commissioner for Rural Infrastructure and Community Development, urged other legislators to emulate the gesture.
Fintiri lauded the existing cordial relationship between the executive arm of government and the legislature, noting that such harminiuos working relations would fast track sustainable development of the state.
Also speaking, Mr Tahir Shehu, Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, lauded the gesture, describing it as “gigantic effort.”
Shehu said the PDP as a party would continue to give the legislators maximum support and encouragement to enable them to enact sound laws to move the state forward.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the beneficiaries of the exercise include youths, women, religious leaders and Faith Base Organisations (FBOs), among others.
