The Speaker, Kwara House of Assembly, Mr Yakubu Danladi, has sympathised with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Ilorin over the fire outbreak that razed a section of the station.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the fire incident, which was reported in the late hours of Tuesday, razed some offices at the station.
The speaker, in a message issued by his Media Aide, Sheriff lbrahim, in llorin on Thursday, described the incident as unfortunate.
“It is with great displeasure that we received the sad news of a fire outbreak at NTA, Ilorin late Tuesday night, razing multimillion naira equipment and documents at the station.
“The gadgets damaged by the inferno are critical to the discharge of the station’s core mandate.
“On behalf of the Ninth Kwara legislature, I sympathise with the management and staff of the TV station over the incident, which is a major drawback for the repositioning efforts of the station,” the statement read in part.
Danladi, who described the television station as a partner in progress with the Assembly, expressed the solidarity of all the lawmakers during the trying period of the station.
NAN reports that the General Manager of the station, Mr Waheed Popoola, had attributed the inferno to power surge in one of the affected offices.
The Director of Fire Service in the state, Alhaji Waheed lyanda-Yakub, said that the fire incident was triggered by electrical fault in one of the affected offices.
He said it took the fire service personnel over an hour to put out the fire.
NAN reports that Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq and the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr Rotimi Iliasu, had earlier visited the station for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation.
