Kebbi State Government, Tuesday, inaugurated a high powered Committee on the supply, distribution and sales of assorted fertilizers and inputs for the 2020 wet season.
The Committee was inaugurated by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Birnin Kebbi, Alhaji Suleiman Mohammad Argungu (Jarman Kabi) on behalf of Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.
The Committee is chaired by a foremost Agriculturalist and retired Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Bello, while the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice , Barrister Abubakar Zaki will serve as it’s Secretary.
During the inauguration, Argungu disclosed that the early action taken by the state government was for the state to maintain it’s unparalleled lead in the country in terms of agriculture.
According to the Chief of Staff, ” the state has taken it’s name in the comity of states in Nigeria, while maintaining that the state will not waiver in such direction in the future.
Argungu further stated that, the setting up of the committee was to ensure that, farmers in the state get the commodities early, so as to alleviate their suffering.
He added that, the farmers would also be given all the needed inputs like improved seedlings, pesticides and insecticides among others.
While speaking, Argungu also disclosed that, the farmers will be given assorted improved seeds of millet, rice, sorghum and other commodities.
The COS reeled out of the terms of reference of the committee to include going round the stores across the state, to take stocks of the fertilizers supplied and remittance.
It will also ascertain that, there are enough stocks, as well as advise on what is to be purchased additionally.
According to Argungu, the Sovereign Wealth Fund of Nigeria has approved twenty five trailers assorted fertilizers to the state .
He stated that, the commodity will be bought from an indigenous firm in the state, Albarka fertilizer blending plant, Birnin Kebbi.
His words, ” the committee will ensure equity and justice in the distribution of the commodity,so as not to exclude any genuine farmer.
” It will also ensure that,the commodity is not diverted to other states by the farmers.”
The Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Abubakar Bello, pledged to live above board in the discharge of their responsibility.
The committee has one week to submit it’s report . Members of the committee include Alhaji Abubakar Bello, Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Bello Bunza, Alaramma Atiku Warra, Alhaji Musa Muhammed Argungu.
Others are Alhaji Danladi Jandutsi, Alhaji Muhamed Zaure Sakaba and Barrister Abubakar Zaki Lonzon as the Secretary of the committee.
