Kebbi Governor Idris Approves N75,000 Minimum Wage with 72-Hour Implementation Directive

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has approved the payment of N75,000 as the new minimum wage for state and local government civil servants.
The approval was granted on Wednesday in Birnin Kebbi, where the Governor signed the implementation document in the presence of the national leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), led by its President, Joe Ajero.
This was contained in a statement by Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity
to the Governor.
Governor Idris directed the Ministry of Finance to ensure the immediate implementation of the new wage, with a 72-hour ultimatum.
He emphasized that October salaries must reflect the increment, fulfilling the promise he made to workers during the national minimum wage discussions.
Expressing gratitude to the leadership of the Organized Labour, Governor Idris acknowledged their unwavering support from his election campaign to his victory in court challenges.
He noted that their backing inspired him to lead by example, demonstrating the leadership potential of unionists in governance.
In his remarks, NLC National President, Comrade Joe Ajero, praised Governor Idris for his exceptional performance in spite of limited resources.
He highlighted the Governor’s achievements in upgrading the state capital, constructing schools, hospitals, and bridges, while also providing free fertilizers and irrigation pumps, all without neglecting workers’ welfare.
Ajero further commended the Governor for maintaining a debt-free administration, consistently paying salaries, gratuities, pensions, and other benefits.
He remarked that this dedication enhances the value of unionists in Nigerian politics.
Earlier, Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, revealed that the labour union had presented three wage proposals, N72,000, N73,000, and N75,000, without alterations. Governor Idris ultimately approved the highest option.
The state’s Accountant General, Alhaji Bello Nahaliku, assured that the government will sustain the new wage structure throughout Governor Idris’ administration.
He also urged state workers to reciprocate this gesture by enhancing their productivity in the workplace.
