Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu), on Monday, distributed 21 buses to the 21 Local Government Councils in the state to enhance their legislative functions.
The presentation took place at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, where Governor Idris handed over the keys to the Chairmen of the Local Government Councils led by the Chairman of Birnin Kebbi Local Government and State ALGON Chairman, Alhaji Dahiru NaYaya Ambursa.
A press statement issued by the special adviser on media and publicity, Yahya Sarki, noted that the governor said the distribution followed requests from council chairmen to support local governance, especially those living in remote areas.
“This will give the councillors an opportunity to travel around and respond to the needs of your communities.
“I understand that some councillors don’t have vehicles, this gesture will go a long way in addressing your transportation needs”, he said.
The Governor urged the council chairmen to ensure proper use and maintenance of the vehicles.
“Vehicles are very expensive now, please ensure you assign responsible drivers who will take good care of them,” he cautioned.
Responding , Alhaji Dahiru Na Yaya, expressed appreciation to the governor on behalf of the 21 council chairmen, assuring him that the vehicles would be used solely for legislative functions.
