The Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda has declared his readiness to combat human trafficking, sexual and gender-based violence, and violence against persons in the state.
The governor made the declaration during a courtesy visit by the state taskforce committee, led by Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Fadila Mohammed Dikko.
This was contained in the statement Thursday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed.
Governor Radda commended the taskforce for its achievements in rehabilitating victims and mitigating the effects of child abuse and trafficking in the state.
He emphasizes the need for enhanced strategies to address the rising cases of violence, particularly sexual abuse against women.
“We must adopt more robust measures to free Katsina State from all forms of violence and child abuse,” Governor Radda stressed.
“My administration is determined to provide all necessary resources for the taskforce to fulfil its mandate effectively,” the governor said.
Barrister Dikko, during her remark, intimated the Governor about the taskforce’s accomplishments, which include: conducting medical outreach, providing school bags to 80 victims of human trafficking, organizing skills acquisition training for 30 victims, and offering psychological support to survivors.
The Attorney General also noted the taskforce’s public awareness efforts through radio programmes and revealed plans to provide soft loans to over 100 youths and scholarships to students in the state.
While acknowledging these successes, Barrister Dikko identified inadequate funding as a significant challenge to the taskforce’s operations.
In response, Governor Radda assured the committee of his administration’s readiness to address this issue and provide the necessary support.
“We recognize the critical role of the taskforce in safeguarding our citizens, particularly the most vulnerable,” Governor Radda said. “Our administration is committed to ensuring they have the resources needed to continue their vital work.”
