Katsina Governor Radda Bags NUJ Workers, Media Friendly Award

The Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has been honoured with the prestigious Workers/Media Friendly Award at the third edition of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Milestone Recognition of Media Icons in Nigeria.
The ceremony, held Thursday at Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, under the theme “Media Legends: Shaping Narratives, Inspiring Generations,” brought together influential figures in Nigerian journalism and governance.
This was contained in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed.
In his acceptance speech, Governor Radda emphasized the crucial role of journalism in democratic governance.
“Journalism is the backbone of democracy,” he stated. “It empowers individuals, holds the powerful accountable, and fosters informed discussions. This recognition from the Nigerian Union of Journalists is not just a personal milestone; it is a testament to the power of journalism in shaping our society.
“I am proud to be part of a community that dictates itself to truth-seeking and advocacy,” Governor Radda remarked.
“This award is a reminder that our work is never done. We must continue to champion integrity, amplify voices that need to be heard and strive for excellence in all that we do,” the Governor added.
In his opening address, the NUJ National President, Chris Isiguzo, X-rayed the media’s vital role in national development. “The media has always been the heartbeat of democracy,” Isiguzo declared.
“We are the watchdogs of the public interest, holding power to account while ensuring that the people’s voices are not drowned in the noise of politics and partisanship,” he said.
He recognized the governors of Katsina and Akwa Ibom states — Malam Dikko Umaru Radda and Pastor Umo Bassey Eno for their presence, adding that the presence of these leaders at the event demonstrates their respect and regard for the media.
The event also featured renowned academic and the former Head of Mass Communication Department at the University of Lagos, Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye as keynote speaker.
Other recipients of the awards include Prof. Umar Pate, ACSPN; Dr. Yemi Farounbi; Comfort Umanah; Shuaibu Leman; Madam Dame Comfort Obi, among others.
Governor Radda’s recognition at this prestigious event further reflects his commitment to transparency, accountability, and the advancement of journalism in Nigeria.
