Katsina Employs Over 34,000 Workers In Two Years – Deputy Governor
By Joe Goddy, Katsina
Katsina State Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal Jobe has announced that Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s administration has employed 34,152 workers across various sectors since assuming office in 2023.
He made this statement on Sunday at the flag-off of a cash disbursement programme for 600 women, youth and students of Kaita Local Government Area, organized by the Kabir Magaji Gafiya Foundation at the council secretariat.
Jobe emphasized that no government in Nigeria has undertaken such a massive employment drive within such a short period, highlighting the administration’s commitment to reducing unemployment and improving livelihoods.
“This employment initiative spans every sector, including religious institutions and traditional leadership structures.
“In all mosques across the state, clerics receive a monthly stipend as part of the government’s intervention efforts,” Jobe stated.
He further elaborated on the administration’s employment record, stating: “We have employed 34,152 people in less than two years. Before we took office, the Katsina State Government had fewer than 22,000 workers.
“The State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) had no more than 25,000 workers, and the 34 local government councils had even fewer.
“The ALGON Chairman can confirm that local government staff were not up to 25,000. Even pensioners numbered only around 8,000 to 9,000. But today, under Governor Radda, we have added over 34,000 workers. Where else in Nigeria has this been done?” he said.
The deputy governor also underscored the importance of entrepreneurship and self-reliance, pointing to the state’s goat empowerment initiative as a strategic investment.
The programme, which supports 40,000 women and livestock farmers with N5.7 billion, aims to enable the state to begin exporting goats to Saudi Arabia and other international markets.
He described it as the best initiative, safe and profitable investment to position the state as a key player in livestock exports.
Earlier, the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Kabir Magaji, praised the governor’s continuous support for the people of Katsina.
He reiterated that the initiative of the cash disbursement drive is part of the administration’s commitment to rewarding the electorate for their trust in the All Progressives Congress (APC) government.
