Katsina State has taken a significant step toward daily air travel operations with the commencement of flights by United Nigeria Airline between Katsina and Abuja.
Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda lauded the development, describing it as a major boost for the state’s economic and business environment.
Speaking at the inaugural flight ceremony at Katsina Airport, Governor Radda emphasised that the arrival of another airline signifies the state’s progress.
“The coming of another airline proves to the world that Katsina has grown and advanced from weekly to daily flights,” he stated.
He further highlighted the economic impact of increased flight availability, noting that it will improve business connectivity and attract more investors.
“With this development, Katsina’s air business has grown to the desired level, enabling people to travel for business at all times.
“This enhances economic opportunities and makes the state more accessible to investors and business partners,” the governor noted.
Former Governor of Katsina State, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari, who played a key role in facilitating the airline’s entry, acknowledged the state’s commitment to improving air travel.
“This achievement was made possible with full government support. It is a gradual but impactful step toward attracting more airlines to operate in Katsina,” Masari said.
Former Governor Barrister Ibrahim Shema urged United Nigeria Airline to maintain high operational standards.
“Ensuring timely departures and arrivals is crucial in building passengers’ trust in the airline,”Shema advised.
Professor Obiora Okonkwo, the Chairman of United Nigeria Airline, revealed that the airline’s expansion to Katsina followed a special request by former Governor Masari.
“We responded swiftly to fill the operational gap. Within two weeks, all necessary arrangements were completed, and our offices are now fully functional in Katsina,” Okonkwo explained.
He also expressed gratitude to Governor Radda for his support in facilitating the airline’s operations.
The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, emphasised the importance of enhanced mobility in economic development.
“Mobility is essential for economic growth, especially in tourism, where Katsina plays a central role in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” Basiru noted.
The launch event saw the attendance of prominent government officials, including Katsina State Deputy Governor, Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe, and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir.
With United Nigeria Airlines now operating in the state, Katsina Airport is set for a new era of daily flights, strengthening the state’s position as a key economic and business hub.
