The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu has mourned the death of Senator Anyaogu Eze.
A former Commissioner of Information in Enugu State, Eze reportedly died at a hospital in Abuja on Thursday.
He was a former spokesman of the Nigerian Senate where he also represented the people of Enugu North Senatorial District from 2007 to 2015 upon his election as a lawmaker in the National Assembly.
Paying a condolence visit to late Senator Eze’s family in Abuja on Friday, the Deputy Speaker expressed shock and sadness over the death of Senator Eze.
According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu on Saturday, Kalu recalled Senator Eze’s active roles in politics especially since the dawn of the civilian rule in 1999, saying he made invaluable contributions to the growth of the Nigerian democracy.
As a former Senate Spokesman, the Deputy Speaker said that Eze discharged his duties with due diligence and professional dexterity, adding that he will be greatly missed.
Consoling Mrs. Nkechi Anyaogu-Eze, the late Senator’s wife and other members of the family, Kalu urged them to take solace in the fact that the deceased left a legacy of hardwork, honesty and decency.
The Deputy Speaker who pledged his support to the family also prayed God Almighty to grant eternal rest to the soul of Senator Anyaogu Eze.
