Sports Writers’ Association of Nigeria (SWAN), an affiliate of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Chapter, has expressed sadness over the demise of the Emir of Zazzau, His Royal Highness, Alhaji ( Dr) Shehu Idris, CFR who died on Sunday at 84.
In a condolence message jointly signed by the Chairman of the Association, Comrade Jacob Zango and the state Secretary of the Association, Comrade Abdulwaheed Olayinka Adubi, described the death of the traditional ruler as a national loss.
The Association further described the deceased as a sports lover and pillar of peace, known for promoting sporting activities and peaceful coexistence while alive.
According to the statement “there is no doubt that we have indeed lost one of the finest and highly revered royal fathers in Nigeria; an elder statesman.
” The late monarch was an exemplary leader and a man of peace who, throughout his reign, was known for preaching and promoting unity and harmony among the diverse people of his domain, the state and the nation at large.”
The Association consoled the Zazzau Emirate to take solace in the fact that the late Emir left behind legacies of honour, dignity and selfless service, while urging the bereaved to uphold same virtues of the deceased.
” On behalf of all members of the Association, SWAN, Kaduna state Chapter extends its heartfelt condolences to the Kaduna state Governor, Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-rufai and the good people of Kaduna state over the great loss.
” We pray that may God Almighty grant the deceased Aljannat Firdaus and comfort those he left behind”.
