The Kaduna State Peace Commission (KAPECOM), has tasked citizens to shun any form of discrimination and crisis amongst one another.
The Vice Chairman of the commission, Barr. Priscilla Ankut asserted this during the visit of the Director General of Plateau State peace building agency to the commission’s office in Kaduna yesterday.
Ankut disclosed that despite the negative impact of COVID-19 which has limited the scope of the commission’s activities, that KAPECOM was able to carry out a lot of mediation activities, as well as engaging with relevant stakeholders and initiating dialogue amongst communities facing challenges of insecurity and conflicts.
In her address, she said, issues on the top of the commission’s is to preach peace amongst the residents of Atakad and Ganawuri communities of Kaura and Riyom Local Government Areas of Kaduna and Plateau states respectively.
According to her, both communities have had some misunderstanding which, incidentally, had led to clashes and unfortunate loss of precious lives and properties.
She explained further that KAPECOM and the Plateau peace building agency are working assiduously to approach all issues surrounding the growing intolerance between the two ethic groups.
Barr. Ankut also disclosed that the Commission has stepped up efforts aimed at revolving the crisis between Gure and Kahugu communities in Lere and Kauru local government areas of Kaduna state.
