The Jigawa State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Gubeenatorial Candidate, Alhaji Mustapha Sule Lamido has promised to address the shortage of Medical Doctors in the state by establishing a Medical College at Sule Lamido University, Kafin Hausa if voted into power by 2023 upcoming elections.
This was contained in a statement by the Director General (DG), State’s PDP campaign Directorate, Alhaji Nasiru Umar Roni, said the aim is to address the chronic shortage of Medical Doctors and other health personnels in the state.
According to the statement, establishing the medical collage in the state’s own university would provide doctors and other medical personnel that will work in the state health facilities.
Roni noted that, the ratio of doctor to patient in Jigawa State was a far cry from the World Health Organization (WHO) standard adding that, the present doctor/patient ratio in Jigawa State is 140,000 patients to a doctor.
According to the DG, the PDP gubernatorial candidate had made it clear during his meeting with a youths and women support groups assured them of working together to improve and develop the people and state socio-economical and infrastructure together.
He added that PDP governorship promised the teeming youths and women in state that the he will declare a state of emergency against unemployment if elected.
The statement added, “The recent statistics released by the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics placed our poverty level at over 84% making us the 4th poorest state in the country is painful and disturbing. We will most do something immediately.
“We intend to provide skill-based education and develop the agricultural and ICT sectors to solve this problem”.
“We will Insha Allah introduce the Graduates Internship Programme to give fresh graduates the necessary experience to compete in the labour market”, Lamido emphasis”.
He therefore called on the people of the state particularly youths and women who are the major victims of unemployment to give the PDP all the necessary support to succeed in the 2023 general elections in the state.
