Jigawa State Government has come up with a law prohibiting night grazing of livestock across the state to reduce road accidents, mainly caused by camels.
Governor Umar Namadi stated this while receiving the officials of Camel Rearers Association of West Africa on courtesy visit to Government House in Dutse.
According to him, the state government is concerned about the lives of the people in the state.
Malam Umar Namadi further explained that the present administration in the state was aware of the illegal activities of herders particularly those coming to the state from neighboring countries.
He unveiled the state governments plan to register the Fulani herders for easy identification when the need arises.
Namadi lamented over the incessant death recorded and the number of casualties that sustained various degrees of injuries due to the number of camels that cross the major roads on daily basis.
In his remarks, the Secretary General West Africa Rearers Association of Nigeria, Abubakar Mustapha Andaza, said they were at the governor’s office to formally introduce themselves and solicit for the state government’s advice on how best to run their activities in the state.
